How to read a motorcycle VIN decode
A motorcycle VIN helps you compare documents, markings and the seller's description. The free pilot shows available manufacturer information and model-level recall campaigns. Coverage depends on the market and source: the same model name does not mean the same version in every country.
Prepare the number and its context
Use the complete VIN shown on the motorcycle and in its documents. The current form accepts 17 characters. If an older vehicle has a different identifier format, do not add invented characters to submit it: that case may be outside the pilot's coverage.
Record the model, the year in the advert and the country of previous registration separately. They help interpret a response but do not replace the VIN. If markings and documents differ, ask the seller why; a matching model name does not establish that a record belongs to this motorcycle.
What the basic source checks
NHTSA vPIC contains manufacturer information, including motorcycle data. Its coverage primarily relates to the US market. A response may contain the make, model, model year and some engine specifications; each field is available only if actually returned.
A European version or a rare motorcycle may decode incompletely. That does not prove a forged VIN or an error in the advert. Read the warnings and ask for a manufacturer document when a specification is missing. Do not assign data from a similar version to the motorcycle you are considering.
A manually imported Kawasaki record
In the supported Kawasaki workflow, you can open K-TISC, retrieve a record by VIN and copy the overview tab's text into the report. The service checks the full VIN and labels the information as manually added. This is not an automatic connection to the manufacturer's database or proof of a complete equipment list.
Compare catalogue year, assembly date and model year carefully: they describe different things. When values differ, retain their field names and sources. Do not replace one with another to obtain a single convenient year. The supplied text's authenticity is not independently verified.
What to clarify before viewing
The pilot looks up campaigns by make, model and year. A match does not establish applicability to the VIN, and no match does not confirm safety. Ask the manufacturer or dealer separately about applicability and completed work.
- Match the VIN on the motorcycle with its documents.
- Clarify the market and version if the model name is incomplete.
- Ask for service documents and dated odometer readings.
- Inspect the condition and any construction changes in person.
Saving the result
The saved part of the report is available in this browser for 30 days. You can download JSON or print it. Temporary CarAPI responses are excluded from exports. Missing fields and questions for the seller remain an important part of preparation: decoding does not confirm the absence of falls, repairs or replaced parts.
Questions and answers
Will the report show falls and repair history?
No such completeness is claimed. Decoding describes available basic specifications; documents and actual condition must be checked separately.
Is the Kawasaki record downloaded automatically?
No. The pilot supports manually transferring compatible K-TISC text with a VIN match check. No automatic manufacturer API is connected.
