VEHICLE DATA / FREE PILOT
Decode a VIN before you buy
Compare available details with an advert and prepare questions for the seller. The pilot is free; open the check form in your selected language.
No payment. Coverage depends on the source and identifier.
What you can check
VIN Service brings together available basic specifications, model-level recall information and additional source records when returned. Read every result alongside its origin and limitations. VIN decoding is not a complete accident, ownership or service history.
NHTSA vPIC primarily covers the US market; completeness varies by VIN. The separate RDW mode uses an exact Dutch registration number. Manually added BMW/MINI or Kawasaki information remains labelled as manual.
How to use the result
Start by comparing the identifier in the documents and on the vehicle. Then check field names, dates and units. A missing record does not prove an event never happened, and a partial result must not turn unknowns into firm conclusions.
- Compare the make, model and available specifications with the advert.
- Record discrepancies and ask for supporting documents.
- Confirm recall applicability to the VIN with the manufacturer or dealer.
- Add an in-person condition inspection to your checks.
Storage and the pilot's limits
The saved part of a report stays available for 30 days in the browser that created it. Clearing cookies may remove access. Registration is not required for a free check.
Automatic CarAPI data is temporary: no more than 15 minutes, or less depending on the source response. It is excluded from the saved report, JSON and print/PDF output. Current actual mileage and a complete history are not confirmed. Paid extended reports are not currently sold.
